First-Ever Binational C-130J Squadron Marks Historic Training Milestone in France and Germany

0

The squadron consists of a combined 10 Super Hercules aircraft built by Lockheed Martin, including six from Germany and four from France. France has received its two C-130J-30 airlifters and two KC-130J tankers, while Germany has received its three C-130J-30s and three KC-130Js. This is the first and only binational C-130J squadron in Hercules history.

While the FGMTC contract is the first established business relationship between Lockheed Martin and France’s DGA, Lockheed Martin has been the leading global provider of C-130J training for 28 years.

Lockheed Martin has proven experience creating turnkey training facilities, as evidenced by the more than 1,000 aircrews and maintenance personnel who have trained at our Hercules Training Center. We understand the requirements of developing a new workforce, the challenges of sustaining an existing workforce, and the training structure needed to support the mission.

House Passes Legislation Sanctioning ICC Over Netanyahu Warrants; Israeli Troops Launch Gaza Operation

0

WASHINGTON — The House passed legislation Tuesday that would sanction the International Criminal Court for requesting arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials.

The 247-155 vote amounts to Congress’ first legislative rebuke of the war crimes court since its decision last month to seek arrest warrants for the leaders of Israel and Hamas.

While the House bill was expected to pass Tuesday, it managed to attract only modest Democratic support, despite an outpouring of outrage at the court’s decision, dulling its chances in the Senate. The White House opposes the legislation, calling it overreach.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military said ground troops backed by airstrikes launched an operation Tuesday in central Gaza’s Bureij refugee camp.

The military waged an offensive this year for several weeks in Bureij and other nearby refugee camps.

Troops pulled out of the Jabaliya camp in northern Gaza on Friday after weeks of fighting caused widespread destruction. First responders said they recovered the bodies of 360 people.

Mayo Clinic Dermatologist Explains Hemangioma: Common Birthmark in Babies Resolves by Age 4, US

0

A hemangioma, also known as a strawberry birthmark, is a bright red birthmark that shows up in the first or second week of life. It looks like a rubbery bump and is made up of extra blood vessels in the skin.

In this Mayo Clinic Minute, Dr. Megha Tollefson, a Mayo Clinic pediatric dermatologist, explains what caregivers should know if their child has a hemangioma.

Dr. Tollefson says they’re technically tumors, but parents shouldn’t let that name or their stark appearance worry them.

They’re actually the most common tumor of infancy, happening anywhere from 1 in 20 to 1 in 50 babies. They are just a collection of blood vessels that grows in the first part of a baby’s life, says Dr. Tollefson.

They’re more common among babies born preterm. And they can appear anywhere on the body, but commonly involve the head and neck areas.

Another feature that might alarm parents is the rapid rate of growth. Dr. Tollefson says hemangiomas will continue to grow until children are about 6 to 9 months old. At that point, they typically stabilize, then go away slowly.

About 90% of hemangiomas resolve — or involute is what we call it — by age 4. So it’s a pretty slow process, says Dr. Tollefson.

Treatment usually isn’t needed. However, Dr. Tollefson says if the hemangioma interferes with vision, other functions, has the potential to be cosmetically disfiguring, is large or is growing rapidly, babies should be evaluated for treatment.

There are really two main treatments that we use now. The gold standard of treatment for a baby that needs a medicine by mouth is a heart medicine called propranolol.

That type of medicine is called a beta blocker. There’s also a topical form of that medicine, and there are some babies for whom that might be appropriate.

Later in life, laser surgery may be an option to treat residual hemangiomas. But Dr. Tollefson says that is not always needed.

US-South Korea Joint Bombing Drills Heighten Tensions Along Korean Peninsula

US and South Korean forces recently conducted joint bombing drills on the Korean Peninsula with the participation of a US B-1B bomber. These military exercises marked the return of the US bomber to such drills in South Korea after a seven-year hiatus. The bomber was reported dropping joint direct attack munitions at an undisclosed location in the country, accompanied by South Korean F-15K fighter jets. Tensions have been escalating on the Korean Peninsula, leading South Korea to resume all military activities along its border with North Korea. Pyongyang’s recent provocative actions, including sending trash-filled balloons to the South and engaging in test military drills, have further strained relations. The South Korean military also detected GPS jamming near islands under its control. As security concerns heighten, the region remains on edge amid the resumption of military engagements and increased provocations from North Korea.

London, Jun 5 (AP) British Prime Minister **Rishi Sunak** and opposition Labour Party leader **Keir Starmer** sparred Tuesday over tax, the cost of living, and the country’s health system in a televised debate, with Brexit disruptor **Nigel Farage** also in the spotlight ahead of the UK election.

The debate highlighted Sunak’s pitch for continuing Conservative rule based on economic stability, with Starmer pushing for change amid acknowledgment of the country’s challenges. Polls show Labour holding a lead, with Starmer aiming to win over former Tory voters on key issues.
