UAE Foreign Minister Holds Discussions on Climate Change and Sustainable Development at UNGA78
In a series of meetings held during the ongoing 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78) in New York, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, engaged with various foreign ministers to address crucial issues related to climate change and sustainable development.
During separate meetings with foreign ministers from Portugal, Belgium, Sweden, Bolivia, France, Burkina Faso, Uganda, Nicaragua, Ethiopia, and Cote d’Ivoire, the UAE Foreign Minister shed light on the UAE’s preparations to host the 28th session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28). The COP28 will be hosted by Expo City Dubai from November 30 to December 12, 2023.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in his discussions, emphasized the UAE’s commitment to leading global climate action as demonstrated through its pioneering initiatives in renewable and clean energy. The ministers expressed their confidence in the UAE’s ability to spearhead international efforts toward addressing climate change through innovative solutions.
Apart from climate change, the meetings also witnessed discussions on a range of regional and international issues. The participating ministers exchanged viewpoints and explored collaborative opportunities within the framework of international organizations.
Highlighting the UAE’s dedication to international cooperation and multilateral work, Sheikh Abdullah affirmed the country’s determination to utilize all available opportunities to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development.
The meetings were attended by prominent UAE officials including Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State; Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs and UAE’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations; and Mohamed Issa Abushahab, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations.
These engagements at UNGA78 further underscore the UAE’s commitment to tackling climate change and promoting sustainable development on a global scale. With COP28 on the horizon, the UAE is poised to play a leading role in shaping the international response to one of the greatest challenges of our time.
