The Australian eSafety Commission has issued a legal notice to Twitter, demanding an explanation of how the social media platform is tackling online hate following a surge in such abuse since Tesla CEO Elon Musk bought the company. The Australian regulator sent a notice to the company with 36 detailed questions on how Twitter’s policies about hateful conduct are enforced. The eSafety Commission received more complaints about online hate on Twitter in the past 12 months than any other platform, with a spokesperson saying the number of serious abuse reports has surged since Musk took over the company in October 2022.
