Sheikha Shamma, the granddaughter of the late President Sheikh Khalifa, has launched an innovative platform known as The Climate Tribe. This UAE-based social enterprise aims to inspire global action on climate change by utilizing storytelling, community engagement, and collaboration. The platform focuses on promoting accessible coverage and awareness of climate action, while also highlighting the achievements of change-makers, innovators, and philanthropists from around the world.
Sheikha Shamma unveiled The Climate Tribe during an event in New York City, which took place alongside the UN General Assembly and Climate Week NYC 2023. In her announcement, she emphasized the importance of sharing untold stories of individuals who are making a significant impact in their communities. Through The Climate Tribe, she hopes to create a digital and physical space where these inspiring journeys can be shared authentically, motivating others to follow suit.
The Climate Tribe employs a multi-dimensional approach, blending visual, audio, and editorial content across 14 key themes, including alternative energy, circular economy, green materials, and diversity and inclusion. By leveraging these different mediums, the platform seeks to engage a wide audience and encourage conscious living habits.
In addition to content creation, The Climate Tribe plans to organize large-scale events and focused workshops that will activate and engage communities. These initiatives aim to facilitate collaboration and foster a sense of shared responsibility towards climate action.
While the final plans for The Climate Tribe will be disclosed in early 2024, there is already an anticipation to establish a creative center in Abu Dhabi. This center will serve as a physical space where people can learn about and contribute to climate action, fostering a sense of community and empowerment.
The initiative will kick off with an inaugural group project next week, hosting an interactive eco-living workshop series. This marks the beginning of The Climate Tribe’s efforts to inspire individuals and communities to take meaningful action towards addressing climate change.
