Deputy Critically Injured in Houston Shooting: Manhunt Underway
HOUSTON — A manhunt is underway for two suspects after a deputy was critically injured in a shooting during a traffic stop in northeast Harris County on Wednesday. The incident occurred along Homestead Road, near Beltway 8 and the Eastex Freeway, but authorities are still uncertain about the events leading up to the shooting.
According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the deputy was on patrol at around 7:40 p.m. when within a minute, 911 dispatch started receiving calls about the deputy being injured. The deputy, whose identity has not been released, underwent surgery at Memorial Hermann Hospital and is currently in recovery.
The injured deputy is 29 years old and has been a part of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for approximately a year and three months. In response to the incident, a Blue Alert was issued for Terran Green, 34, and later for James Green, 37. Investigators believe both men are connected to the shooting.
Terran Green is described as a Black man, standing at 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes, and was wearing a gray shirt and black shorts at the time of the shooting. James Green, also a Black man, stands at 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs around 168 pounds. Specific information about his attire has not been provided.
Authorities initially sought a 2016 dark blue Ford Escape with license plate number SVJ6590 in connection with the case. However, the suspect vehicle was found abandoned at the Quail Chase Apartments on West Airtex Boulevard, just west of the North Freeway north of Beltway 8. Sheriff Gonzalez mentioned the possibility of other individuals being in the vehicle, leading to a comprehensive manhunt.
Throughout the incident, various officials expressed their support for the injured deputy. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Texas Governor Greg Abbott both made statements denouncing the shooting. Governor Abbott assured that DPS Special Agents were mobilized and responding, vowing to apprehend the criminal responsible for the attack.
The search for the two suspects continues as law enforcement agencies coordinate efforts to locate and apprehend Terran Green and James Green. Individuals with any information related to the incident are urged to contact Crime Stoppers or the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Meanwhile, the community stands in solidarity, praying for the full recovery of the brave deputy injured while serving and protecting the residents of Harris County.
