Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has directed that every government event should feature a three-minute live drama on road safety in a bid to create awareness and reduce the number of accidents on the road. The play, which focuses on measures to be taken to ensure road safety, is aimed at catching the attention of people and providing important tips on how to stay safe while driving.

Mr. Sarma has also advocated the use of social media to reach out to people, especially the younger generation, to help in creating awareness on road safety and to ensure safe driving practices. This is part of the government’s efforts to help reduce the number of accidents caused by reckless driving, which have become rampant in the country.

The initiative adopted by the Chief Minister draws inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who, during his tenure as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, successfully fought against female foeticide through his Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign.

Chairing the meeting on road safety, Mr. Sarma underscored the need for an integrated effort involving all stakeholders, including the police, the drivers, and the public to ensure road safety, stating that it was everyone’s responsibility towards ensuring safe roads.

Accidents caused by reckless driving remain a major concern in many parts of India, with many people losing their lives or suffering life-changing injuries. The drama productions are expected to create awareness on the need to always drive responsibly and obey traffic rules, in a bid to help curb incidents of accidents on the roads.

In conclusion, the Assam government’s introduction of short dramas on road safety is a welcome move towards ensuring that people drive and use the roads responsibly. It is essential that drivers are aware of the measures that need to be taken to ensure road safety so that accidents can be minimized. The initiative is expected to help bring down the number of accidents caused by reckless driving and ensure that everyone is safe on the roads.
