WFCU Credit Union, a prominent financial institution in the Windsor-Essex region, demonstrated its commitment to community development and support by making a generous donation of $50,000. This substantial contribution was announced during the grand opening of WFCU’s newest retail branch at 814 St. Clair Street in Chatham.

The recipient of this donation is the Scottish Borderers Foundation, an organization dedicated to the Essex-Kent Scottish Regiment. The funds will be directed towards the foundation’s ‘Service, Sacrifice, and Duty’ capital fundraising campaign, aimed at honoring the regiment’s vital role in protecting Canadians and allies. The Scottish Borderers Foundation’s representatives were present at the grand opening, where they received the cheque in front of esteemed guests, including the Chatham-Kent Mayor, dignitaries, special guests, and media members.

Eddie Francis, the President & CEO of WFCU, emphasized the institution’s commitment to education and the alignment of their support with the Scottish Borderers Foundation and the Essex-Kent Scottish Regiment. He expressed his belief that the donation will help fund local and international monuments, ensuring the regiment’s presence at local parades and commemorating their service and sacrifice.

Gratitude for WFCU’s support was extended by Mike Robinson, the President of the Scottish Borderers Foundation and former Commanding Officer of the Essex and Kent Scottish. Robinson emphasized the significance of community backing in bridging the funding gap for commemorative initiatives.

WFCU Credit Union’s dedication to community well-being extends beyond this generous donation. The institution has announced its support for various Chatham community initiatives in the coming months, including the Habitat for Humanity Chatham RiverRun, Crowfest, Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation Benefit Gala, Chatham Goodfellows Halloween Spooktacular, and the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation Christmas Wish Tree campaign.

The Scottish Borderers Foundation, being the official Foundation of the Essex-Kent Scottish Regiment, aims to raise $600,000 to honor 200 years of service and sacrifice. The received donations will be invested to sustain the foundation’s capital base, with the generated interest funding commemorative endeavors, support for the Pipes and Drums band, monument upkeep, and historic preservation.

Having built a strong presence in Chatham, WFCU Credit Union continues its legacy of community enrichment and financial service excellence. Since its inception in 1940, it has been considered the sixth largest credit union in Ontario and the twentieth largest in Canada.

In conclusion, WFCU Credit Union’s donation of $50,000 to the Scottish Borderers Foundation’s capital fundraising campaign reflects its commitment to supporting the community. This donation will aid in commemorating the Essex-Kent Scottish Regiment’s service and sacrifice through the funding of local and international monuments, ensuring their presence at local parades. WFCU Credit Union continues to actively contribute to various Chatham community initiatives, further emphasizing its dedication to community well-being.
