The United States vows to retaliate strongly against Iran-backed groups in Iraq and Syria, according to White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. He stated that while additional strikes are planned, it remains unclear if strikes against Iran itself are being considered. This comes after the US and Britain launched strikes on Yemen in response to attacks by Iran-backed Huthi rebels on shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. In addition, the US executed separate strikes on Iran-linked targets in Iraq and Syria in response to the killing of three US soldiers in Jordan. The Pentagon reported a total of 85 strikes on seven sites, targeting command centers, training facilities, and weapons stocks. Sullivan could not confirm civilian casualties but emphasized the validity of the targets. The US intends to continue sending a clear message that it will respond when its forces are attacked.
