US Denies Involvement in Removal of Former Pakistani Prime Minister, Sparks Controversy Over Foreign Policy

The United States has vehemently denied any involvement in the removal of the former Pakistani Prime Minister, Imran Khan, from power. The denial comes in response to a report by US news outlet, The Intercept, which claimed that the US objected to Khan’s foreign policy regarding the Ukraine war. The report has triggered fresh debate and controversy over US foreign policy.

The allegations made by The Intercept prompted strong reactions from top officials, including Pakistan’s former Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and US State Department spokesman Mathew Miller. During a recent press conference, Miller refuted the claims and stated that the US played no role in conspiring against the former Pakistani premier. He also emphasized that the allegations leveled against Washington are false.

While Miller refrained from discussing the alleged cable cited in The Intercept’s report, he clarified that even if the comments were true, they merely reflect Washington’s concerns about Khan’s policy choices rather than an attempt to replace him with another leader.

In addition, Miller mentioned that some people have taken his previous statement out of context for political gains. This statement suggests that there may be political motivations behind the accusations made against the US.

Last year in April, Imran Khan was voted out of office through a motion of no-confidence tabled by ruling alliance members. In response, the former cricket star led a long march to the capital, organizing massive nationwide rallies where he confronted state institutions and accused the US of conspiring against his government.

Subsequently, Khan faced numerous legal challenges, including over 150 cases involving terrorism and blasphemy. He was also disqualified by a top electoral authority and survived an alleged assassination attempt in November. Earlier this year, he was briefly detained before being arrested in a corruption case and subsequently sentenced to three years in prison.

As the situation unfolds, further investigations and discussions are expected to shed more light on the alleged involvement of the United States and its impact on foreign relations between the two countries. The controversy highlights the importance of transparency and careful consideration of foreign policy decisions to maintain strong diplomatic ties.
