Up-and-coming Singer Sparks Controversy, Accuses Target Employee of Racism for Interrupting Flash Mob
In a recent incident that has caused division on Twitter, up-and-coming singer Baby Storme has accused a Target employee of racism for interrupting her dance flash mob and calling the police. The video posted by the singer received backlash from internet users who defended the staff member, stating that they were simply doing their job.
Baby Storme, whose real name is Janice Mofus, is a 23-year-old singer from Yonkers, New York, who gained recognition as a TikTok star and a member of the alternative music genre. She began her career in 2021 and has released 14 songs so far, including her latest track, This City Is A Graveyard, which gained viral attention following her recent complaint against Target.
On August 14, Baby Storme uploaded a three-minute YouTube video titled Target Employee Calls The Police On Us For Dancing – Baby Storme ‘TCIAG’ Flash Mob: Part 1. The video shows Storme and her dance troupe performing a flash mob in a Target store aisle while music plays in the background. In the footage, two male Caucasian workers can be seen monitoring the group, with one of them stating, We’re gonna have to call the cops on you guys and another voice mentioning safety concerns.
After posting the video on Twitter, Baby Storme captioned it, This racist Target employee called the police on us for dancing in Target… So we danced anyway. However, her comment received a negative response, with many people asserting that the employees were not racially motivated but rather were enforcing store policies.
While some fans acknowledged their support for Baby Storme, others expressed their belief that the flash mob was disruptive and went against store regulations. They argued that the staff had a right to ask the group to leave, as they had not obtained permission to film and dance in the store beforehand.
According to Target’s website, individuals are required to communicate with the store’s leader on duty and seek approval for any filming activities at their locations. Storme later clarified on TikTok that the security had called the police on them before they even entered the building, leading her to believe that the workers had preconceived notions about her.
To defend her point, Baby Storme shared an old video of Caucasian anti-mask protestors in Target. However, her response further fueled the controversy. Twitter user Tristan Tate, who has been particularly vocal against Baby Storme, defended the Target workers and criticized her for not finding an appropriate location to shoot her music video.
In their exchange, Baby Storme mentioned the Tate brothers’ alleged involvement in human trafficking and rape charges in Romania, which the brothers have denied. Tate responded by offering a reward to put him in touch with the security guard to support a defamation lawsuit against Baby Storme.
The incident has sparked a heated debate among internet users, with differing opinions on whether the Target employees acted out of racism or were simply enforcing store policies. As the controversy continues, it remains to be seen how Baby Storme and Target will address the issue moving forward.
