These allegations have proven highly compelling to citizens disillusioned with mainstream media’s critical coverage of the man they perceive as working for their benefit.
While no other presidential candidate has employed demagoguery and prejudice to the extent Trump has, there is a partial parallel in the form of Huey Long, who served as Louisiana’s governor from 1928 to 1932 and later as a U.S. senator until 1935. Long, a champion of the poor and a vocal critic of banks, advocated for an authoritarian style of governance and was renowned for his impassioned speeches. Despite accusations of political corruption, he commanded great admiration.
