Turkey and Qatar Collaborate to Provide Housing for Syrian Refugees in Aleppo
Turkey and Qatar have joined forces to construct housing facilities for Syrian refugees returning to their homeland in Aleppo. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has initiated a tripartite mechanism involving the Turkish Ministry of Interior, the ruling Justice and Development Party, and its parliamentary bloc to facilitate the repatriation of Syrian refugees and address the issue of irregular migration.
The primary objective of this mechanism is to implement practical and legal measures that encourage the return of asylum seekers to Syria. As part of the plan, Turkey and Qatar will partner to build joint housing facilities to provide shelter for returning refugees. Additionally, efforts will be made to stimulate economic and commercial activities in northern Syria. The strategy involves establishing secure regions where entrepreneurs, including Turkish businessmen, can set up facilities and factories, thereby creating employment opportunities.
One of the key elements of this collaboration is the inclusion of Aleppo, a significant economic center in Syria. Turkey is currently in negotiations with Russia and the Syrian regime to establish safe zones within Aleppo, aiming to revitalize the city’s economic and social landscape and generate substantial job opportunities. The successful revival of Aleppo is anticipated to encourage the return of a significant number of Syrian refugees currently residing in Turkey.
Addressing the issue of illegal immigration, the plan also involves strengthening diplomatic ties with the countries of origin or transit for migrants. The objective is to take proactive measures to reduce illegal immigration and establish constructive channels for cooperation.
According to reports from the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, an upcoming meeting between President Erdogan and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad will focus on the repatriation of refugees, particularly those from Aleppo. Turkey’s main priority is to ensure the safe return of approximately one million Syrian refugees. To achieve this, Turkey is implementing a robust policy against irregular migration and promoting the return of refugees to their homeland. The meeting between the two leaders is expected to address these issues as well as the process of normalizing relations between their respective countries.
The collaboration between Turkey and Qatar highlights the ongoing efforts to support Syrian refugees and facilitate their return to Aleppo.
