Tragic Bus Accident in Nepal Leaves 7 Dead, Dozens Injured
At least seven lives were lost and several others were injured in a heartbreaking bus accident that occurred in Nepal’s Bara district during the early hours. The incident took place around 2 am, when a bus carrying Indian pilgrims, traveling from Kathmandu to Janakpur, overturned near Churiamai Temple in Makawanpur. The pilgrims had just completed their visit to the revered Pashupati Temple in Kathmandu and were on their way back.
The District Police Office of Bara reported that the bus tumbled around 50 meters off the road into a riverbank south of Churiamai Temple, situated in Jitpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-22 along the East-West Highway. Tragically, one Nepali resident from Mahottari district and six Indian nationals from Rajasthan state, four females and two males, lost their lives at the scene of the accident. Meanwhile, 20 others suffered injuries, with three individuals being critically wounded.
Among the 27 passengers on board were two drivers and their assistants. After the accident, the police took immediate action and detained the bus driver, Jilami Khan, from ward 7 of Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City in Dhanusa district, along with his two assistants. It was noted that the driver and his coworkers sustained minor injuries during the incident.
The injured passengers were promptly admitted to hospitals in the Hetauda area for medical treatment. Deputy Superintendent Pradeep Bahadur Chhetri of the Area Police Office, Simara, mentioned that an initial investigation indicates the accident may have been a result of the bus driver falling asleep while driving at a high speed.
This unfortunate incident has once again raised concerns regarding road safety and the need for effective measures to prevent such accidents in the future. Local authorities and law enforcement agencies are working diligently to conduct a thorough investigation into the accident.
