Indian Authorities Rush to Identify Victims’ Bodies After Deadly Train Crash

Indian authorities are struggling to identify the victims of the tragic train crash in the Balasore district that killed 275 people and injured 1,000 others. The bodies were exposed for over 36 hours, making identification difficult and hastening decomposition. The sheer scale of the accident is causing significant difficulties for authorities, who are considering cremation after collecting DNA samples. Bhubaneswar’s municipal commissioner says they may have to consider mass cremation once DNA samples have been collected. So far, 151 of the total 275 victims have been identified.
