Syria Violence Escalates: Over 100 Killed, Including 6 Children

In a tragic escalation of violence across Syria, more than 100 individuals, including six children, lost their lives in a recent attack on a military academy in Homs. The situation remains grim as waves of attacks continue to wreak havoc in both Northeast and Northwest Syria, resulting in the reported deaths of at least 13 civilians. Critical civilian infrastructure, including a school supported by Save the Children, has also been damaged.

Save the Children, the humanitarian organization, has expressed deep concern over the safety and well-being of children in Syria. Rasha Muhrez, Save the Children’s Syria Response Director, emphasized the urgent need for a cessation of hostilities and de-escalation by all parties involved. The ongoing violence poses significant risks to children, may force them to abandon their homes, and deprive them of essentials such as food, water, and education. This not only undermines humanitarian assistance efforts but also jeopardizes the future of Syrian children.

After more than 12 years of conflict, the children of Syria deserve the hope of a safer and brighter future. All parties must refrain from further violence and commit to a genuine and meaningful political process that will bring an end to this devastating conflict and secure a better future for the nation’s children.

Save the Children has been actively engaged in Syria since 2012, providing aid to over five million people, including more than three million children across the country. Their comprehensive programming encompasses emergency and life-saving interventions as well as early recovery activities that focus on restoring basic services such as child protection, education, emergency response, food security, livelihoods, water sanitation and hygiene, health, and nutrition.

While the situation in Syria remains dire, concerted efforts from all parties and international support are required to protect innocent lives, ensure the well-being of children, and seek a lasting resolution to the conflict. The global community must unite to address the urgent needs of Syria’s children, ensuring their safety, access to education, and a chance at a brighter future.
