COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — The Swedish government announced a significant military aid package to Ukraine, totaling $1.23 billion, marking the largest assistance donation from Sweden to date. The aid includes crucial equipment like air defense systems, artillery ammunition, and armored vehicles, essential for Ukraine’s defense priorities. While ruling out the deployment of Swedish-built JAS 39 Gripen jets at the moment, Sweden is actively supporting a F-16 fighter jet program, aligning with other countries offering F-16 donations to Ukraine. In a strategic move, Sweden plans to contribute two SAAB ASCC airborne early warning and control aircraft that will enhance Ukrainian air defense capabilities by detecting threats such as cruise missiles and drones. This support marks Sweden’s 16th aid package since the onset of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
