Oscar-winning actor Susan Sarandon has taken legal action against a construction firm after encountering numerous issues with her Vermont dream home. The $2 million property, which Sarandon had intended to retire in, suffered from problems such as buckled siding, missing insulation, mold, and an unfinished bedroom ceiling. These issues were identified by engineers, contractors, and Sarandon’s staff. On Thursday, a lawsuit was filed against DeGrenier Contracting and Property Management in the federal court in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Sarandon, known for her environmental activism, had envisioned an off-the-grid home with solar power, well water, and geothermal energy. The construction management firm, based in Clarksburg, Massachusetts, was responsible for overseeing the project. However, Sarandon alleges that the firm’s owner misrepresented his qualifications, inflated invoices, charged for work that was never completed, and did very little to justify the nearly $140,000 caretaker fee. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and fraudulent misrepresentation.

The construction firm’s owner has declined to comment on the lawsuit. Sarandon, who won an Academy Award for Best Actress in 1995, currently stars as the main antagonist in the superhero film Blue Beetle. The outcome of the legal proceedings will determine whether Sarandon can rectify the extensive problems in her Vermont home.
