Singapore’s ratification of the International Solar Alliance has been hailed as a big step by Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Speaking at the G20 Development Ministers’ Meeting in Varanasi, Jaishankar emphasized the significance of Singapore’s decision to join collective efforts on climate action. The International Solar Alliance aims to promote efficient solar energy use in order to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The alliance was first introduced by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who launched it with French President Emmanuel Macron at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris. The International Solar Alliance is also responsible for implementing One Sun One World One Grid, a program that aims to transfer solar power-generated energy to other areas to meet electricity demands. The ratification was made official by Dr Mohamad Maliki bin Osman who deposited Singapore’s ISA instrument of ratification during the meeting. Singapore’s joining of the ISA signifies its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
