Severe weather could produce tornadoes, flooding today in Northeast Ohio, NWS says

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop during the late afternoon and early evening Wednesday in Northeast Ohio as a cold front arrives and forecasters with the National Weather Service warn that some could turn severe.

The storms might produce wind gusts up to 60 mph and also lead to flooding in some areas because of heavy rainfall. Forecasts also say tornadoes are possible.

The advisory covers most of northern Ohio, including Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, Lorain, Lake, Geauga, Medina, Summit, Portage, and Trumbull counties.

An hourly forecast shows the strongest chances for showers and thunderstorms in the Cleveland area are between 5 and 8 p.m., but volatile weather remains possible until early Thursday morning.

Highs are expected to reach the mid-80s Wednesday and it will be humid. Cooler temperatures are expected after the round of the showers and thunderstorms, with highs in the low to mid-70s through the weekend.
