Title: Russian Shelling in Kherson Region Claims Civilian Life
In a distressing event, the Kherson region in Ukraine faced intense shelling that resulted in the loss of innocent lives. On August 27, Russian forces targeted the Virivka area of the Tiahin community, leaving a devastating impact on the local population. As a result of this assault, a 35-year-old civilian resident tragically lost their life, while another woman suffered injuries that were incompatible with survival. The injured woman was rushed to the hospital, and there are ongoing efforts to verify the extent of the damages caused.
Oleksandr Prokudin, the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, shared the heartbreaking news through his Telegram account. Expressing his deep sorrow, Prokudin confirmed the death of a 35-year-old woman due to the Russian shelling and acknowledged the hospitalization of another resident who sustained injuries. Prompt action has been taken as prosecutors, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, initiated a pre-trial investigation into the violation of laws and customs of war, alongside intentional murder charges.
Tragically, the Kherson region has been a frequent target of Russian aggression ever since Ukrainian soldiers liberated the right bank of the Dnipro River. The occupiers have been launching relentless attacks, using heavy weapons, aviation, and aerial bombs on a daily basis. On August 27 alone, the enemy carried out a staggering 61 shellings in the region, launching 272 shells from various weapons, including mortars, artillery, tanks, Grads MRLS, and drones. Kherson witnessed the firing of 36 shells alone.
The Russian military deliberately aimed at residential complexes, critical infrastructure, medical institutions, enterprises, the national park, and warehouses in the Beryslav district. Their unwarranted aggression resulted in one civilian fatality and left four others injured, according to the reports provided by Oleksandr Prokudin.
Meanwhile, the night of August 27 witnessed a major air alert across Ukraine, wherein the enemy launched cruise missiles towards the capital. However, Ukraine’s anti-aircraft defense forces successfully intercepted and brought down all enemy targets. The pilots reported that up to eight aerial targets were observed, with four of them being shot down. Falling rocket fragments damaged ten houses in the Kyiv region and caused injuries to several individuals.
The situation remains grave as innocent lives continue to be lost and communities face considerable destruction. The international community must be attentive to the ongoing conflict and take necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of innocent civilians.
