Russian businessman Sergey Karshkov has died at the age of 42 after a medical mishap in Switzerland, according to a Facebook post by Russian animator Pavel Muntyan. Karshkov reportedly died in a Swiss clinic after a medical examination where an allergic reaction to MRI fluid caused him to fall into a coma from which he died. Karshkov, along with his partner Roman Semikhoin, founded Cyprus-based online bookmaker 1xBet and was accused by Russia’s Investigative Committee of carrying out illegal activity and money laundering through the structure. Karshkov was placed on an international wanted list in 2016, and Semikhoin said they had to move to Cyprus to build the international project. Despite Russian authorities targeting online bookmakers from 2014, the pair claimed to have become the number one bookmaker in Africa and were in the top three in Latin America. 1xBet has not yet commented on the businessman’s passing.
