Russian Air Defenses Shoot Down 31 Ukrainian Drones in Border Attack
The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday that Russian air defenses had successfully shot down 31 Ukrainian drones in a nighttime attack on border regions. This marks what appears to be Kyiv’s largest single cross-border drone assault reported by Moscow since the invasion began 20 months ago. However, no evidence was provided to support these claims, and there were no details about any damage or casualties resulting from the attack.
The Russian Defense Ministry also revealed that Russian aircraft had prevented a Ukrainian attempt to deploy soldiers by sea to the western side of Russian-annexed Crimea. The Ukrainian force had tried to land on Cape Tarkhankut, located on Crimea’s western end, using a high-speed boat and three jet skis.
Amidst these developments, Ukraine continues its slow-moving counteroffensive that was launched three months ago. However, concerns are growing over the scale of future weapons and ammunition supply from Ukraine’s Western allies. Admiral Rob Bauer, the head of NATO’s Military Committee, has raised the alarm about depleted stockpiles. With the war of attrition expected to continue through the winter and into the next year, Bauer warned that the bottom of the barrel is now visible regarding weapons systems and ammunition supplies.
In parallel news, a former state TV journalist in Moscow has been given an 8 1/2-year prison term in absentia for protesting against Russia’s war in Ukraine. Marina Ovsyannikova was charged with spreading false information about the Russian army, marking the latest crackdown against dissent that has intensified since Moscow’s invasion 20 months ago.
While tensions between Russia and Ukraine persist, it is crucial to gather information from different sources to present a balanced view. As this situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how Ukraine will navigate the challenges posed by the existing weapons supply concerns.
