ROAD RAGE CRASH AND SHOOTING: ARREST MADE, NO INJURIES REPORTED
Authorities in Camden County, North Carolina are expressing surprise after a road rage incident resulted in a crash and shooting, yet miraculously, no one was injured. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening on U.S. Highway 17 in South Mills, just south of the Virginia state line.
The Camden County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the situation just before 6 p.m. As units were en route to the scene, additional reports came in indicating that shots had been fired between the two involved vehicles before the crash. According to preliminary information, the incident stemmed from a confrontation sparked by road rage.
The investigation revealed that the driver of the overturned vehicle had fired shots at another driver, with at least one bullet striking a victim’s vehicle through the rear window, narrowly missing the driver’s head. Shortly after the shooting, the two vehicles collided, causing the suspect’s vehicle to roll over multiple times.
Remarkably, neither the occupants of the suspect vehicle nor the occupant of the victim’s vehicle, nor any other motorists, sustained any injuries. Law enforcement officers discovered and seized multiple pieces of evidence at the scene, including a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, a loaded ammunition magazine, 9 mm ammunition, and drug paraphernalia.
In connection with the incident, 23-year-old Shawn Michael Allen II of Chesapeake was arrested and taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, reckless use of a firearm, assault by pointing a firearm, and injury to personal property. A Camden County magistrate found probable cause for the charges and set Allen’s bond at $50,000.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is actively investigating the crash, while the Camden County Sheriff’s Office is handling the shooting incident. Sheriff J. Kevin Jones stated that an open criminal investigation into the incident is ongoing.
