Riverside Man Sentenced to 60 Months for Possessing Drugs and Firearms in California

A Riverside County resident, Shane Glazer, 30, has been handed a 60-month federal court sentence for possession of a firearm with the intent to distribute drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, and heroin. The severity of Glazer’s actions and the potential catastrophic outcomes were emphasized by U.S. Attorney Tara McGrath.

The case unfolded on June 10, 2022, when San Diego police discovered an unconscious Glazer in a running vehicle. Upon closer inspection, officers found fentanyl, methamphetamine, and a staggering $3,600 in cash hidden in Glazer’s fanny pack. They also discovered an unregistered ghost gun along with ammunition in the vehicle. Surprisingly, Glazer was released on bond following this incident.

However, approximately five weeks later, Glazer was once again found unconscious in his car. When approached by law enforcement, he made a desperate attempt to flee, reaching speeds exceeding 125 mph and disregarding traffic signals along the way. Unfortunately for Glazer, his escape attempt ended in a crash into a freeway embankment. In a bid to avoid capture, he discarded a loaded firearm onto the freeway, putting the lives of unsuspecting motorists at risk. A subsequent search of his vehicle uncovered more drugs and $1,546 in cash.

The charges faced by Glazer, a resident of Sun City, CA, were numerous, including possession of a firearm with the intent to distribute drugs, evading law enforcement, and endangering public safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sandor Callahan was responsible for prosecuting the case.

Chris Bombardiere, the Special Agent in Charge of the Los Angeles Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, highlighted the consequences that individuals involved in drug trafficking would face when using privately made firearms. While privately manufactured firearms can be legally owned, using them for illicit purposes will result in severe penalties.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN). PSN is a collaborative initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and enhancing neighborhood safety through combined law enforcement efforts and community engagement.
