Ocala Man Arrested After Fleeing Traffic Stop and Attempting Carjacking
An Ocala man was apprehended by authorities after a series of incidents involving a traffic stop and an attempted carjacking. The incident took place in Citrus County, Florida.
The driver, identified as 23-year-old William Lindo II, fled from a traffic stop initiated by deputies in the area of Highway 486 and Highway 491. As he fled westbound on Highway 486, Citrus County deputies deployed tire deflation devices near the intersection of Highway 486 and Donovan Avenue in an attempt to stop Lindo.
Although the tire deflation devices were effective, Lindo decided to turn off his vehicle lights to evade law enforcement. He then turned onto Turkey Oak Drive and fled on foot. To apprehend him, a K-9 deputy pursued Lindo with ground units, while the air unit set up a perimeter in the area.
During his attempt to escape, Lindo tried to carjack a driver near the 8000 block of Crystal Street but was unsuccessful. The driver managed to escape from Lindo, who then fled on foot once again. Eventually, deputies were able to catch up to him and apprehend him.
A subsequent search of Lindo’s vehicle led to the discovery of two clear plastic bags containing approximately 25.33 grams of a white powdery substance, which tested positive for fentanyl. Deputies also found 28.5 grams of cannabis inside the vehicle.
Sheriff Mike Prendergast expressed his pride in the team’s efforts to apprehend Lindo, stating, Lindo not only put himself at risk last night but countless citizens along the way. I am incredibly proud of my team for apprehending this reckless individual and thankful no one was harmed.
Lindo now faces multiple charges, including trafficking in fentanyl, possession of cannabis, burglary with battery, grand theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding, resisting without violence, and attaching a tag not assigned to a vehicle. He is currently held at the Citrus County jail on a $61,000 bond.
These events highlight the dangers posed by individuals fleeing law enforcement and engaging in criminal activities. The swift response and apprehension of Lindo demonstrate the dedication and effectiveness of law enforcement in ensuring public safety.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of cooperation between law enforcement and the public in reporting suspicious activities and assisting authorities in their efforts to keep communities safe. The diligent work of the deputies involved in the apprehension of Lindo is a testament to their commitment to serving and protecting the community.
As the case progresses, further details may emerge, shedding light on the motives behind Lindo’s actions and the potential impact of his criminal activities. Authorities will continue their efforts to gather evidence and ensure that justice is served.
