Regina welcomes Farooq Sheikh as the new Chief of the Police Service

The Regina Police Service (RPS) has announced that Farooq Hassan Sheikh will be taking over as the 19th chief of police, starting on December 1. This decision comes after a five-month search following the retirement of former chief Evan Bray in June.

Jada Lee, chairperson of the Regina Board of Police Commissioners, praised Sheikh’s extensive work with diverse communities and his dedication to collaboration, stating that she believes he will serve the community of Regina well.

During the transition period, Deputy Chief Dean Rae and Deputy Chief Lorilee Davis took on the responsibilities of the police chief. The Board of Police Commissioners acknowledged their efforts and contributions in maintaining stability within the force since July.

With Sheikh’s appointment, the Regina Police Service is looking forward to a new era of leadership. The citizens of Regina can expect a dedicated chief who prioritizes crime prevention and the well-being of both the employees and the community. With his vast experience and commitment to collaboration, Sheikh aims to create a safer and more inclusive environment for all.

As Sheikh assumes his role, the Regina Police Service is optimistic about the future and confident that under his leadership, the force will continue to serve the community with diligence and professionalism. The citizens of Regina can rest assured knowing that an experienced and passionate individual will be leading their police service, working tirelessly to keep the city safe.

In conclusion, the appointment of Farooq Sheikh as the new Chief of the Regina Police Service is an important step forward for the community. With years of experience and a dedication to proactive policing and employee well-being, Sheikh is well-positioned to lead the force into the future.
