Drone Strike Shakes Tensions Between Russia and Ukraine
In a recent turn of events, tensions between Russia and Ukraine have escalated as the two nations engaged in a record-breaking drone strike. The strike, conducted by Ukrainian forces, targeted Russian bases in Ukraine, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict. The attack, which combined drone strikes with Strom Shadow missiles, resulted in a retaliatory strike from the Russian military.
The Ukrainian General Staff reported that the Russian strike consisted of 43 missiles, with 36 of them being intercepted. Unfortunately, seven missiles hit Ukrainian cities, causing damage and disruption. The strike targeted various locations, including a substation connected to a Thermal Power Plant in Rivne, a hotel in Cherkasy, and the radio factory in Kyiv. Reports suggest that the Russian missile aimed at the radio factory missed its target and damaged nearby residential areas instead.
In a surprising twist, Ukrainians achieved a milestone in their retaliation efforts by conducting the largest drone strike in the history of the conflict. Drone footage captured numerous explosions, leading analysts to estimate that over 100 drones and up to two dozen missiles were launched. One of the main targets was the Russian airfield in Novofedorivka, Crimea. Ukrainian Intelligence reported that the airfield housed several fighter jets and an air defense Pantsir.
To create a safe passage for their attack, Ukrainian forces strategically deployed drones to multiple locations surrounding Crimea. Neptune missiles were then launched at the Russian airfield, resulting in significant damage to Russian aviation and allegedly claiming the lives of at least 30 soldiers. Additionally, geolocated footage suggests that several targets in Sevastopol were also hit, although the exact details remain unclear.
Prior to the latest strike, Ukrainian forces had already inflicted damage on the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s command post. The attack, carried out with Strom Shadow missiles on September 20, targeted a communication center in Sevastopol. Ukrainian Intelligence confirmed that this base was being used as a substitute for the main headquarters which had been previously attacked by Ukrainian drones.
The recent strikes have severely impacted Russian military capabilities, with reports suggesting that they have started evacuating submarines and assault landing ships from Crimea. It appears that the region may soon be devoid of a Russian fleet and aviation presence.
In a parallel move, Ukrainian forces also launched a precision strike on a Russian command center in Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Russian troops had repurposed a former engine factory as the command center, resulting in casualties among Russian officers.
