Princeville Public Library Renovations Begin, Pop-Up Location Coming Soon

Princeville residents will soon see major changes at their beloved local library as a yearlong renovation project gets underway. Starting on Monday, October 30, the Princeville Public Library will temporarily close its doors to the public. The final day for full library services and pick up requests will be on Saturday, October 28. During the renovation period, the book drop-off will also be inaccessible, starting from 4 p.m. on October 28.

With the library’s closure, the community will have to hold on to their book donations, as they will not be accepted during the project. However, the Hawai’i State Public Library System has come up with an exciting alternative to ensure continued access to limited library services.

A small pop-up location will be set up in the library’s parking lot, providing patrons with a place to borrow from a smaller collection of materials, pick up holds, return borrowed items, and even access limited Wi-Fi. The pop-up location is scheduled to open to the public in late November. Operating hours for the pop-up will be on Tuesdays through Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., excluding state holidays.

The Princeville Public Library’s renovation project aims to make significant improvements to the facility, focusing on health and safety. The anticipated completion date for this project is October 2024, ensuring a modern and secure library space for the community. The library’s webpage at librarieshawaii.org/branch/princeville-public-library will be regularly updated with the opening date for the pop-up location, so residents can stay informed.

This renovation project is an exciting step forward for the Princeville Public Library. While the temporary closure may pose some inconvenience, the availability of the pop-up location will help bridge the gap and provide essential services to the community. As residents eagerly await the completion of the renovation, they can remain assured that improvements are on the way, promising an even better library experience in the future.
