Former passengers of the OceanGate Titan, known for offering tours to witness the Titanic wreckage deep under the sea, have shared their experiences inside the submersible amid the ongoing search for the missing submarine.

CBS Sunday Morning correspondent, David Pogue, described the ride as risky and likened it to being in a minivan without seats. He explained that the submersible is a titanium tube about 20 feet long with only two computer screens and one 21-inch round window at the end. While visiting the Titanic wreckage, passengers take turns looking out the porthole and cannot exit unless someone unbolts it.

Pogue highlighted the potential danger of the ride, stating that passengers must sign a waiver acknowledging the risks involved, including the possibility of death.

Mike Reiss, writer and producer of The Simpsons, also provided positive feedback for OceanGate despite the public scrutiny. He participated in four dives, including one to the Titanic and three off New York City, where communication was lost briefly on every occasion. Still, he praised the company for taking their responsibility seriously and not being reckless.

Reiss stated, They’re not hot dogs. They’re not daredevils here. They take this very seriously. He added that when communication is lost, the submarine returns to the surface immediately.

The ongoing search for the missing submarine has gained international attention, with the stepson of the billionaire owner of the vessel, who is presumed dead, making headlines after attending a Blink-182 concert during the rescue efforts. Despite this, the experiences of former passengers shed light on the safe and responsible practices of OceanGate.
