Three New York City firefighters who were involved in the heroic response to the 9/11 attacks will be sharing their stories at the EAA Aviation Museum’s annual memorial presentation. Matt Nelson, Charles Blaich, and Steven San Filippo, all veteran members of the New York City Fire Department, will speak at the event, which marks the 22nd anniversary of the deadliest terrorist attacks in US history.
On September 11, 2001, the World Trade Center in New York City became the target of a devastating attack that claimed the lives of 2,977 people. The three firefighters played a crucial role during and after the attacks, and were instrumental in the cleanup efforts that followed.
The EAA Aviation Museum, located in Oshkosh, will host the memorial presentation in its Eagle Hangar at 7 p.m. on September 11. In a news release, the museum stated that the firefighters’ stories will shed light on the heroism displayed that day, as well as the human cost of the attacks, including the loss of 343 members of the fire department. The event is endorsed by the New York City Fire Department.
The annual 9/11 program at the EAA Aviation Museum aims to honor the bravery exhibited by countless individuals on that fateful day and in the immediate aftermath. Previous speakers have included military pilots and air traffic controllers who were part of the collective response to the attacks.
Everyone is invited to attend the September 11 presentation, with free admission for EAA members, active military personnel, law enforcement and public safety professionals, as well as first responders. For others, admission is priced at $5.
