Nurse Among Filipino Nationals Killed in Hamas Assault on Israel
One Filipino nurse was tragically killed in the recent assault on southern Israel by Hamas gunmen. The attack, which took place over the weekend, resulted in the deaths of at least 1,200 Israelis, as well as foreign nationals from 23 countries. Among those killed were two Philippine nationals.
The female victim, who had been living in Israel for six years and had recently gotten married, was slain alongside her employer in a kibbutz during the surprise attacks. According to reports, both were gunned down by Hamas fighters who forcibly entered their residence.
The bodies of the deceased Filipino nationals were discovered in the Gaza Envelope, a region within 7 km of the Gaza Strip border. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed his condolences and condemned the killings, stating that the Philippines stands firmly against such acts of terror and violence.
Additional details emerged as the deputy mayor of Jerusalem, Fleur Hassan-Nahoum, posted a photo of the female victim and revealed her name as Angeline. Hassan-Nahoum commended Angeline’s bravery and loyalty, explaining that she had chosen to stay by the side of an elderly woman she was caring for, even in the face of danger. Tragically, both Angeline and the elderly woman were brutally murdered by Hamas.
Currently, there are around 30,000 Filipinos residing in Israel, with a small number located in Gaza. As news of this incident spreads, the global community mourns the loss of innocent lives and joins in condemning these senseless acts of violence.
It is crucial for countries around the world to unite in their efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of their citizens. The Philippines and other nations affected by these attacks must work together to address the root causes of such violence and promote peace in the region.
The families of the victims are undoubtedly devastated by this tragic loss. The international community stands in solidarity with them during this time of mourning. It is our hope that justice will be served, and measures will be taken to prevent further loss of innocent lives in the future.
