The North Carolina Republican Party has censured Senator Thom Tillis for his votes on key legislation, including a gun ownership restrictive bill. Despite being unable to remove him from office, party delegates have expressed their dissatisfaction with Tillis’ votes on bills like the Respect for Marriage Act and the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. Former Governor Pat McCrory has opposed the move, stating that a mob mentality doesn’t do us any good. Tillis’ spokesperson, Daniel Keylin, has defended Tillis’ voting record and the senator himself has said that he makes decisions based on current data and facts. Tillis became North Carolina’s senior senator when Richard Burr retired in early 2023.
