Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has ordered an investigation into a hijab controversy involving Ganga Jamna school in Damoh district. A poster of the school’s top students went viral on social media, showing all girl students, including Hindus and Jains, wearing headscarfs. An FIR was registered against the school’s management for alleged religious conversion under Sections 295, 506 of the Indian Penal Code, and the Juvenile Justice Act. Following the FIR, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) instructed the district administration to permanently suspend recognition of the school.
The ruling BJP has accused the school management of Love Jihad and converting Hindu girls to Islam. The Education Minister accused the Damoh district collector of giving a clean chit to the school management and demanded a proper investigation. The district education department has derecognised the school’s registration, but the hijab controversy wasn’t mentioned in the notification. On Tuesday, some people threw ink on the face of the district education officer, while Home Minister Narottam Mishra said he would take action in the matter.
