Manipur High Court Urges State Government to Restore Mobile Internet Services
The Manipur High Court has called on the state government to find ways to restore mobile internet services to the people of Manipur. This decision came after a series of pleas were filed by various parties seeking the reinstatement of mobile internet services, which had been blocked since May 3 due to violent incidents in the state.
A bench comprising of Justice Ahanthem Bimol Singh and Justice A Guneshwar Sharma directed the state authorities, particularly the home department, to devise mechanisms for providing internet services through mobile phones. The court suggested whitelisting mobile numbers on a case-by-case basis and implementing the restoration process in a phased manner.
The move to restore mobile internet services comes as a relief to the people of Manipur, who have faced significant difficulties in staying connected and accessing vital online resources during the internet blackout. By allowing mobile internet services to be reinstated, the court hopes to alleviate some of these hardships.
The court’s decision acknowledges the importance of internet access in today’s digital age, especially during challenging times. It recognizes that mobile internet services can play a crucial role in bridging communication gaps, maintaining connectivity, and ensuring the smooth functioning of various sectors such as education, healthcare, and business.
While the restoration of mobile internet services is a positive step forward, it is important to strike a balance between providing access to information and ensuring public safety and security. Therefore, the court has advised the state government to implement the restoration process in a phased manner, considering the unique circumstances and requirements of each case.
It is expected that the State Home Department will work diligently to devise an effective mechanism for whitelisting mobile numbers, which would enable the restoration of mobile internet services. This approach will not only ensure access to essential services but also help prevent any misuse of the restored connectivity.
The decision of the Manipur High Court is a reminder of the significance of internet access in our daily lives. It reflects the need for governments to adapt their policies and find innovative solutions to provide uninterrupted services while maintaining law and order.
The people of Manipur can now look forward to accessing mobile internet services in a phased manner. This development will undoubtedly pave the way for improved communication, access to information, and a more connected society.
It remains to be seen how the state government will respond to the court’s directive and when the restoration of mobile internet services will begin. However, this decision marks a positive change in the lives of the people of Manipur, who have long awaited the restoration of a vital lifeline that connects them to the world.
