Lost and Found Office at State Fair of Texas Unveils Hidden Treasures: Dentures, Phones, and Passports Among Recovered Items

Every year, the State Fair of Texas becomes a goldmine of hidden treasures, with valuable items being unearthed and safely stored away in the fair’s lost and found office. Surprisingly, many fairgoers are unaware of the existence of this office!

One such fortunate fairgoer is Joe Garner, who couldn’t help but smile as he was reunited with his lost dentures, which he had feared were gone forever. We went to the car and I said, ‘Honey, I can’t find my dentures,’ Garner recalled. She said, ‘You can’t find them?’ I said, ‘No, it had to be in the State Fair of Texas.’ Little did he know, his dentures were patiently waiting for him among the other orphaned items.

Lost and found supervisor Tommy Ames shared that Garner’s dentures were not the first to be discovered at the fair. This is the third year in a row we’ve found dentures, Ames revealed. This year, we were able to return the dentures to the owner. Ames and his team have been overwhelmed with the sheer number of items turned in. Out of the thousand items brought in so far, almost 500 have already been reunited with their rightful owners.

The lost and found office at the State Fair of Texas meticulously organizes items into different categories, ensuring that everything from cell phones to keys, wallets, purses, and even a motorized wheelchair find their way back to their owners. This year, the office faced an interesting challenge when someone lost their passport. However, they continue to go above and beyond to help fairgoers retrieve their lost belongings.

If you find yourself leaving the fair without an item or have just realized that something dear to you is missing, fear not! The lost and found office remains open for an additional week after the fair closes, allowing ample time for fairgoers to contact them and retrieve their items. However, it’s important to note that unclaimed items will be donated to different charities, except for IDs and credit and debit cards, which will be destroyed.

In a new development, fairgoers can now call ahead or send email inquiries about their lost items, streamlining the process of recovery. This advancement aims to further enhance fair attendees’ experience and ensure that the lost and found office is accessible to those in need.

The State Fair of Texas lost and found office serves as a testament to the compassionate and helpful nature of its staff. Garner, for one, is immensely grateful for the existence of this facility, even if he was unaware of it until recently. I saw those dentures and I said, ‘You have no idea how expensive that upper plate is,’ Garner exclaimed with a smile.

As the State Fair of Texas draws to a close, the lost and found office stands as a beacon of hope for those who have misplaced their belongings. With the dedication and commitment of its staff, fairgoers can rest assured that their lost items have a good chance of being returned. So, don’t hesitate to contact the lost and found office and reclaim what’s rightfully yours! After all, the fair may have ended, but the journey to reunite you with your treasures is still underway.
