Leva Susie King, was called to heaven on July 14, 2024. Born in Jan. of 1946 in Owensboro, Kentucky to parents Everett and Elizabeth Richeson, and older sister, Mary Deanna. Growing up in a loving and caring home, she learned the family values that she would practice for the rest of her life. In 1966 she married the love of her life Harold, finished her nursing degree, and began their new life together. Her first years of marriage were spent working as a nurse at Mercy Hospital in pediatrics, the birth of their first child, the loss of her mother in 1969 to cancer, a husband drafted into the military, and a move to California. Years later, after returning to Owensboro, she continued her nursing career in private care and would go on to have two more children. Harold and Susie would spend almost 58 years of married life together being faithful stewards to God, attending church, raising three children, and being successful small business owners. She was always caring and supportive to anyone in need no matter the situation or cost just as her mother and father had raised her to be. After raising her children, she decided to do more with her life and went to work for the school system as a teacher’s assistant. Before retirement, she worked for American Greetings and took pride in making sure her work was completed on time and to perfection. Veolia Environmental Services Fined $30K for Environmental Licence Breach in Tarago, Australia

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has fined Veolia Environmental Services (Australia) Pty $30,000 after allegedly failing to comply with the conditions of the Environment Protection Licence covering their Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) facility in the Woodlawn Eco-Precinct in Tarago.

During a routine inspection of the facility in April this year, EPA officers observed a large amount of leachate collecting on compost pads. Further inspection revealed that the drain designed to transfer leachate from the pads to the treatment dam was blocked, causing the liquid to back up and flood the pads.

NSW EPA Executive Director of Operations, Jason Gordon, said the incident had the potential to cause odour issues and could have been avoided if more effective measures were in place.

We expect all EPA licenced waste facilities to comply with the conditions of their licence, which includes maintaining and operating plants and their equipment in a proper and efficient manner. This was a clear failure to do so, Mr Gordon said.

Proper management of composting activities involving leachate – the contaminated liquid generated during the composting process – is crucial to prevent the pollution of subsoil, groundwater, and surface water, as well as offensive odours that can escape and impact neighbouring communities.

In our view, this incident was preventable. Not only was the drain blocked but the leachate dam it served was full and resources available to help better manage the situation were not used. In this case, temporary rubber storage bladders should have been used by Veolia to store the excess leachate and create capacity in the dam.

The EPA has previously issued Veolia with a formal warning and official cautions regarding non-compliance with the licence conditions for their Mechanical Biological Treatment facility. Leachate management at the facility is also the subject of a pollution reduction program on the licence.

African Swine Fever Outbreak Hits Thailand’s Chiang Mai Farmer: 69 Pigs Culled

Thailand reports first African swine fever outbreak of the year

Thailand has reported an outbreak of African swine fever, according to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).

The outbreak occurred on a farm with 70 pigs in Chiang Mai. The outbreak began on June 5 in Luang Nuea Village, Doi Saket District, Chiang Mai Province. It was reported to WAHIS on July 10. Of the 70 pigs in the village, three became sick and one died. In total, 69 pigs were culled.

It is the first outbreak reported since September 2023.

The source of the infection is suspected to be food waste and fomites, or possible surfaces contaminated with bacteria. One possibility is that the food waste given to the pigs was not heated properly due to the large size of the container in which it was stored.

Proximity of the farm to a waste collection area and the presence of stray dogs, along with a weak and inadequate fencing, may have allowed the dogs to have introduced the virus into the farm.

British MPs Demand Recognition of Palestine, End Ties with Israel, UK

0

Calls are getting laude in the British House of Commons regarding Palestine and their plight, with a number of lawmakers demanding David Lammy, newly-appointed Foreign Secretary end ties with the Zionist regime and recognize an intendent Palestinian state.
In a joint letter addressed to Lammy, lawmakers referred to the high number of martyrs in Gaza and the catastrophic humanitarian situation there in the face of over nine months of Israel’s bombing and shelling campaign, calling for sanctions against Zionist leaders and the cessation of arms cooperation with this regime.
We, the signatories of this letter, have been chosen by the voters to address their concerns about the current catastrophic situation in Gaza, described by the International Court of Justice as a case of ‘plausible genocide’, mentioned former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn in a copy of the letter posted on social media.
The letter signed by several MPs demands the UK government to suspend arms sales to Israel, impose sanctions on those inciting genocide against Palestinians, and resume financial aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA). Additionally, they suggest halting discussions on a UK-Israel trade agreement.
Furthermore, the MPs urge the immediate recognition of a Palestinian state and call for the UK to use its influence on the UN Security Council to advocate for a ceasefire in Gaza. They also request the release of hostages, compliance with International Court of Justice rulings, and ceasing opposition to the ICC arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
This pressure from lawmakers comes as Lammy visited occupied Palestine for the first time since becoming Foreign Secretary, where he expressed the new government’s commitment to establishing a ceasefire in Gaza and providing aid to Palestinians.
