Valory Unveils Propel Genie: AI Agent for Swift Creation of Autonomous Agents

0

Valory has launched an artificial intelligence (AI) agent, dubbed Propel Genie, that is specially designed to act as a software engineer that enables application developers to create agents trained for specific descriptions defined in natural language specifications.

Originally developed to create agents for the open-source Olas framework for cryptocurrency transactions, Propel Genie presents developers with an interface similar to ChatGPT. It then translates natural language descriptions into a technical roadmap, known as a Finite State Machine (FSM) specification, that outlines the structure for the agent architecture. That roadmap is then used to generate the agent described in the specification using Genie code planner, code generation and code evaluation agents.

Valory CEO David Minarsch said Genie is essentially a super-agent that employs large language models (LLMs) to convert a design specification written in natural language to create the code that drives a fully functional autonomous AI agent.

Genie also enables rapid prototyping through automated workflows to facilitate the swift creation of autonomous agents that developers can iteratively build, test, and refine agent prototypes as needed over a few days, he added.

Available via the Propel platform that Valory makes available for developers of crypto applications, Olas is already being used to enable multiple AI agents created using Propel Genie to interact with one another. Propel Genie, however, can also be applied more widely to enable organizations to build their own custom agents, said Minarsch.

In the long term, Valory is working toward enabling anyone to create their own AI agent by reducing the complexity. In the meantime, however, Genie essentially functions as a software engineer that enables developers of varying skill levels to create an AI agent based on a natural language specification.

It’s not clear how the role of software engineers will evolve in the age of AI, but many of the manual tasks are becoming increasingly automated. In the future, most DevOps teams will be made up of a mix of humans and AI agents specifically trained to handle specific tasks. The challenge will then become orchestrating workflows across a team that includes those AI agents. As the time and effort required to create new agents starts to decrease, it also becomes possible to add or replace AI agents as needed across a wide range of digital business processes.

In the short term, however, most AI tools are squarely focused on enabling developers to write more code. There is not nearly as much focus on applying AI to the workflows that DevOps teams employ to shepherd all that code into an application running in a production environment. However, with the advent of AI tools such as Genie the art of what might soon be possible is coming into sharper relief.

The one thing that remains to be seen now is the degree to which agents such as Genie might one day fundamentally change the economics of software development.

Scientists Develop Anti-Aging Drug Boosting Mice Lifespan by 25%, UK

0

Scientists have created a drug, which increased lifespan of mice by 25 percent, raising expectations that it will have similar effect in humans.

Scientists at the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Medical Science and Imperial College London conducted the study on mice, who were known as ‘supermodel grannies’ in the lab because of their beautiful appearance.

First and co-corresponding author Assistant Professor Anissa Widjaja said, ‘This project started back in 2017 when a collaborator of ours sent us some tissue samples for another project. Out of curiosity, I ran some experiments to check for IL-11 levels. From the readings, we could clearly see that the levels of IL-11 increased with age and that’s when we got really excited.’

During the study, the researchers found that switching off IL-11 increased the healthy lifespan of mice. The protein is responsible for ageing, muscle wasting, chronic inflammation, and metabolism disorder in human.

Professor Stuart Cook, who was a co-corresponding author of the study, said, ‘The treated mice had fewer cancers, and were free from the usual signs of ageing and frailty, but we also saw reduced muscle wasting and improvement in muscle strength.

‘In other words, the old mice receiving anti-IL-11 were healthier,’ Cook continued.

The findings, published in the journal Nature, showed increase in lifespans of mice depending on the experiment and sex of the mice.

‘Our aim is that one day, anti-IL-11 therapy will be used as widely as possible, so that people the world over can lead healthier lives for longer. However, this is not easy, as approval pathways for drugs to treat aging are not well-defined, and raising funds to do clinical trials in this area is very challenging,’ Cook added.

Moroccan Tomatoes Face EU Protests Amid Unfair Competition Shock, Morocco

Moroccan Cherry Tomatoes Supplier Decries French ‘Denigration’ Campaign

Because they are preferred by most consumers, Moroccan tomatoes have been the target of protests by EU farmers in recent months. Azura, a supplier of Moroccan cherry tomatoes to European markets, has criticized a denigration campaign led by French producers against its produce, sparking a heated debate. French producers see the company’s activities as unfair competition targeting their products, but Azura operators have vehemently defended their practices, calling the accusations shocking. Abir Lemseffer, Deputy General Manager of Azura, emphasized that the company strictly adheres to all regulations, distancing themselves from the unfair competition claims. The focus on Moroccan tomatoes, particularly in France, has unveiled a deep-seated frustration among European farmers towards the flourishing market presence of Moroccan produce. Nonetheless, Azura’s commitment to cultivating high-quality tomatoes in Morocco’s favorable climate remains unwavering, providing year-round supply at competitive prices amidst the escalating tensions. The stigmatization of Moroccan tomatoes as symbols of unfair competition has not only sparked protests in France but also raised concerns across Europe about the impact of Morocco’s growing agricultural exports on local markets. Despite the outcry, Azura continues to deliver top-grade cherry tomatoes to European consumers, highlighting the complexities of international trade dynamics.

Trump Trades On The Move, Chance Of A Lifetime Plus A Stunning Look At Gold – Russia News Now

Here is a look at Trump trades on the move, chance of a lifetime plus a stunning look at gold.

We’re realizing again that the Trump Trade goes both ways and markets are responding to the Bloomberg interview. Tariffs of 60% might not be enough and 100% could be the rate we heard. Biden though doesn’t disagree as we’ve seen his administration slap that on some more Chinese products and I’ll call out both sides for their obsession with tariffs and the overall damage it does.

People forget that the 2018 tariffs put the US manufacturing sector into a recession and we’ve been in another one for the past two years. Another tariff battle is a bad thing. Another economic fight with the 2nd largest economy is a bad thing. There is also a story this morning that the Biden administration will further limit the sale of chip related products to China. The daily bashing of China will continue until the election, at least, it seems.

Also, the euro/yen-heavy DXY is trading at the lowest level since March 20th as we were reminded that Trump doesn’t like a strong dollar either. We have a big currency problem he said. The yen in particular is having a good day. The Ministry of Finance in Japan is getting a free ride today on someone else’s verbal FX intervention.

As for Taiwan, Taiwan Semi is down almost 4% premarket and who is going to make Nvidia’s chips if China takes advantage of the Trump comments?

As for Jay Powell, he’s now apparently welcome to stay on until his term ends to deal with the inflationary implications of all these tariffs and a weak dollar (though usually ones currency would rise with tariffs imposed on others).

Positively, a 15% corporate tax rate would make Corporate America and doing business in the US even more competitive. Just see how many companies have gone to Ireland to do business.

Politics and policy are certainly a lot about trade-offs for sure.

Fed Governor John Williams is seemingly telling us that we won’t be getting a surprise July rate cut. He said yesterday (posted today) in a WSJ interview that while they are gaining more confidence on the disinflationary trend, I would like to see more data to gain further confidence inflation is moving sustainably to our 2% goal. ‘Sustainably’ again the key word.

I’ve been trying to square what I’ve seen from a variety of retailers over the past few months with the big upside seen yesterday with the non-auto retail sales (impacted by the CDK software problem). My buddy David Rosenberg helped by saying A very generous seasonal factor was at play. The raw NSA data actually showed retail sales plunging 5.6% m/o/m in June, the worst drubbing in a decade and tied for the steepest plunge since the series began in 1992!

The British pound is now above $1.30 for the first time in a year, helped by the Trump comments but also a CPI print that came in higher than expected that is seeing Gilt yields jumping too. While headline CPI was up just 2% y/o/y, the core rate was much higher at 3.5% because of a 5.7% service price increase, all one tenth above expectations. The BoE won’t likely be cutting rates in August. The positive though was softer than expected PPI figures for both input and output charges.

Graddhy out of Sweden: Chart now as think it has turned inside the massive blue triangle for the last time. Oil sector lead the commodities baby bull move up from the bear low in 2020. This chart says it is now time for precious metals to shine.

Time For HUI Gold Mining Index To Shine vs Oil Stocks

The move in precious metals miners have only just begun.

The charts are now set up to climb the right side of huge rounded bottoms. Most will not get into a bull market mindset until too late though. So, be one of the few that catches the whole move, the move of a lifetime.

New all-time highs yesterday after a sideways consolidation.

Opportunity of a lifetime.

German Govt’s Bitcoin Sell-Off Boosts Market Confidence, Germany

0

The cryptocurrency market has recently witnessed a significant event that has sparked discussions and speculations among investors and analysts alike. The German government, which had previously seized a substantial amount of Bitcoin from criminal activities, has concluded its sell-off, leaving its Bitcoin wallet empty. This move was closely watched by the crypto community, as many feared it would lead to a drop in Bitcoin’s price due to the increased supply hitting the market.

However, contrary to these concerns, the market has shown resilience. Bitcoin’s price has not only held steady but has also exhibited signs of stability and a potential bullish trend post the sell-off. At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading above $64,985 and Ether around $3459, suggesting that the market has absorbed the impact of the German government’s actions without significant distress.

The completion of the sell-off has alleviated the market jitters that were previously present, as evidenced by the Fear and Greed index, which had plunged to extreme fear during the sell-off period. Now, with the sell-off over, the index has seen a recovery, indicating a return of investor confidence.

Experts have weighed in on the situation, analyzing the potential long-term effects and the impact on overall market confidence. Some suggest that the market’s ability to withstand such a large sell-off without crashing could be seen as a sign of maturity and robustness in the cryptocurrency ecosystem. Others point out that this event may present prime opportunities for buying, as historical data suggests that optimal entry points in a bull market often follow periods when short-term holders sell at a loss, and the fear index is high.

The German government’s decision to liquidate its Bitcoin holdings was part of a broader effort to offload assets seized from criminal activities. The process involved transferring funds to major crypto exchanges in the U.S. and Europe, such as Coinbase, Bitstamp, and Kraken. The transparency of these transactions, tracked by blockchain analytics firms, provided the market with data to gauge the government’s actions and their potential impact.

As the crypto market continues to evolve, events like the German government’s Bitcoin sell-off serve as important indicators of how external factors can influence market dynamics. The market’s response to this event has been largely positive, suggesting a growing resilience against potential shocks and a readiness to capitalize on new investment opportunities.

For investors and enthusiasts, the key takeaway is the importance of staying informed and understanding the market’s reactions to significant events. The German government’s sell-off has provided valuable insights into the crypto market’s behavior, offering lessons that could be useful for future investment decisions.

The crypto market’s prices pick-up after the German government’s sell-off is a testament to the market’s strength and the confidence of its participants. It also highlights the importance of market sentiment and investor behavior in shaping the trajectory of cryptocurrency prices. As the market matures, it will be interesting to see how it responds to similar events in the future and what new developments will emerge from these dynamics.

First Human Case of West Nile Virus Confirmed in Cook County, Illinois, US

0

The Illinois Department of Public Health has identified the first human case of West Nile virus so far this year, the agency said Wednesday.

Commercial testing and clinical symptoms indicate a resident of suburban Cook County contracted the mosquito-borne illness, state public health officials reported. Confirmatory testing is still pending. The person, who is in their 60s, developed symptoms in mid-June.

Summer in Illinois means mosquitoes, and these mosquitoes increase our risk of contracting vector-borne illnesses like West Nile Virus, IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra said in a written statement. We encourage all Illinois residents to ‘Fight the Bite’ and protect themselves and their loves ones from insect bites that can cause potentially serious illnesses.

Last year, Illinois saw 119 reported human cases of the virus — up from just 34 in 2022. Six deaths were attributed to West Nile, compared to seven the year prior.

People older than 50 and those who are immunocompromised are at greater risk for severe illness.

To guard against mosquito bites, experts say you should wear long pants, a light-colored, long-sleeved shirt, shoes and socks when outdoors. Be sure to apply EPA-registered insect repellent that contains DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus, or IR 3535 according to label instructions.

People also should eliminate (or refresh each week) all sources of standing water where mosquitoes can breed, including in bird baths, flowerpots, wading pools, old tires and other containers.

Rare Rattlesnake Den Cam Reveals Surprising Behavior in Colorado, US

0

Thank you for pointing that out. Here is the revised response without any descriptions:

The remote site on private land in northern Colorado is on a hillside full of rock crevices where the snakes can keep warm and hide from predators.

This is a big, big den for rattlesnakes. This is one of the biggest ones we know of, Emily Taylor, a California Polytechnic State University biology professor leading the Project RattleCam research, said.

The Cal Poly researchers set up the webcam in May, working off their knowledge from a previous webcam they set up at a rattlesnake den in California. The exact location in Colorado is kept secret to discourage snake lovers — and haters — away.

The high-elevation Colorado rattlesnakes take refuge in the den for winter and emerge in the spring for a short season of activity compared to rattlesnakes in the Southwest. This time of year, only pregnant female snakes are at the den while males and not-pregnant females move into the lower country nearby.

In August, the babies will be born. They’re called pups and, unlike nearly all other reptiles, they do not hatch from eggs but are born alive.

Unlike other snakes, rattlesnake mothers care for their young, protecting them against predators and shielding them with their bodies. Sometimes rattlesnakes even care for the young of others.

It truly is a group effort, a community science effort, that we couldn’t do on our own as scientists, Taylor said.

Red-tailed hawks circle above, awaiting a chance to swoop in for a meal. Once a magpie caught a baby rattlesnake.

When it rains, the rattlesnakes coil up and catch water to drink from the cups formed by their bodies.

Taylor expects a surge in activity after the pups are born — then even more in September as snakes return from surrounding areas in preparation for winter.

Rattlesnakes get a bum rap as creepy and threatening. But the webcam shows they’re social animals that don’t go out of their way to be aggressive, Taylor pointed out.

I try to speak up for the underdog, Taylor said, and to show people that rattlesnakes have this other side that’s really worthy of our admiration.

King Charles III Unveils Labour Government’s Bold Legislative Agenda: Economic Growth, Housebuilding, Nationalization, and More – London Opening Speech Highlights, UK

0

London, Jul 17 (PTI) King Charles III on Wednesday outlined the new Labour government’s legislative plans for the year ahead at the State Opening of Parliament, days after the UK’s landmark general election.

The King’s Speech, setting out the parliamentary agenda of the newly elected Labour Party government, included nearly 40 pieces of legislation as well as other policy priorities that Prime Minister Keir Starmer intends to implement.

The key highlights of the speech focus on economic growth, housebuilding and nationalisation of railways with measures focused on creating wealth in every corner of the country and improving the living standards of working people”.

My government’s legislative programme will be mission-led and based upon the principles of security, fairness and opportunity for all, the 75-year-old monarch said, reading out the customary speech drafted by the government.

Securing economic growth will be a fundamental mission. My government will seek a new partnership with both business and working people and help the country move on from the recent cost of living challenges by prioritising wealth creation for all communities, he noted.

Earlier, King Charles and Queen Camilla rode in a horse-drawn carriage to the Palace of Westminster, where the King delivered the address marking the first day of a new parliamentary session.

The monarch, in his capacity as Head of State, arrived at the Sovereign’s Entrance to Parliament and subsequently led the royal procession to the chamber of the House of Lords where a senior officer known as Black Rod summoned members of the House of Commons into the Lord’s Chamber to listen to the speech.

Ahead of that, the royal bodyguards ceremonially searched the cellars of the Palace of Westminster for explosives, commemorating the gunpowder plot of 1605 – a failed attempt by English Catholics to blow up the Protestant King James I and Parliament.

In keeping with tradition, one member of Parliament is always ceremonially held hostage in Buckingham Palace while the Sovereign attends Parliament to ensure the King’s safe return. This role fell to the Vice-Chamberlain of the Household, Samantha Dixon MP, a government Whip.

Once the King and Queen left the chamber, marking an end to the regal aspects of the occasion, the new parliamentary session formally began with both the House of Commons and Lords beginning to debate the contents of the speech for several days before it could be voted on.

The government has said its package of bills focuses on growing the economy through speeding up the building of houses and infrastructure, improving transport, creating more jobs, and securing clean, green energy – helping to make every part of the country better off.

Among the key legislative proposals, new tax and spending changes must legally be assessed by the independent Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), as a safeguard against financial upheaval.

Liberalisation of planning laws to boost construction, an employment rights bill, and increased devolution to mayors across England are also on the agenda.

Additionally, plans for a new Great British Rail governing system and a publicly-owned clean power company, Great British Energy, aim to accelerate investment in renewable energy.

Reforms to the House of Lords, reducing its size, have been proposed alongside a renewed push for a rolling ban on youth smoking, emphasizing the party’s commitment to health and social issues.

The King’s Speech marks a significant moment in the UK’s political landscape as the new Labour government sets out its ambitious agenda for the year ahead. As debates ensue and legislation takes shape, the country prepares to witness the impact of these proposed changes on the lives of its citizens.
