Cybertruck Paparazzi Causing Auto Collisions in the U.S., US

0

AUSTIN, TX — According to a study released by the US Department of Transportation, approximately 90% of auto collisions within the United States are connected to drivers trying to take pictures of Tesla Cybertrucks.

Preliminary research indicates that men tend to take pictures of the boxy, futuristic, wildly cool electronic trucks in order to post them to Instagram and gloat over how good they look with their buddies, while women tend to take pictures of the ugly, kindergarten-designed monstrosities in order to cry over them with their besties. Crash rates for drivers trying to take pictures and selfies with the e-vehicles are slightly biased towards women.

They’re just SO COOL – I’m pretty sure it’s mandatory to try to take a picture of every Cybertruck you pass, said motorist Robert Jordan while attempting to drive and snap a photo of a really fire Cybertruck as his wife shook her head vehemently in the background. It’s like the future…just look at it!

Look at it, Carol! It’s amazing! Just like Blade Runner!

The Jordans were unavailable for further comment, as Robert had rear-ended the Toyota Prius in front of him and had to stop to argue with its purple-haired driver. The driver of the Cybertruck was also unavailable for comment, but he seemed to be wearing totally rad aviator sunglasses and is probably a super chill guy.

At publishing time, the Department of Transportation had confirmed that Cybertruck paparazzi do, in fact, present an even larger driving hazard than your mom and your wife.

Black People Disproportionately Strip-Searched by Police in England: Report, UK

0

Black people are disproportionately strip-searched by nearly all police forces in England and Wales, a recent analysis of new Home Office strip search data shows.

According to a study by the Runnymede Trust, an independent British race equality think tank, Black children are 6.5 times more likely than white children, and Black adults 4.7 times more likely than white adults, to be strip-searched by police.

The data comes alongside a Home Office consultation on the use of strip searches against minors. This follows the Child Q scandal in 2020, during which a 15-year-old Black girl was strip-searched while on her period at her school in East London without an appropriate adult present after being wrongly accused of smelling of cannabis.

Strip searching is such an invasive procedure, and when deployed with this level of racialised disproportionality, the harm reaches way beyond the individual child or person, said Shabna Begum, chief executive of the Runnymede Trust, describing the practice as inherently violent, humiliating and harmful, especially for children.

The study revealed that more than 47 percent of strip searches conducted on children in London are on Black children, even though they constitute only 16.9 percent of the city’s child population.

In Sussex, a Black person is 18 times more likely to undergo a strip search compared to a white person.

If we actually want to build safer communities and safeguard our children, we need to invest in our social infrastructure and ensure people have the opportunities and resources to thrive and flourish, Begum said.

We cannot continue to be told by politicians across the political spectrum that so-called ‘tough on crime’ policies are the solution to social problems, she added.

Indian PM Modi Takes Oath for Third Term Amid Political Shifts

0

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken the Oath of Office for a third straight term.

Modi, 73, took oath on Sunday at a grand ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan palace in New Delhi, attended by thousands of dignitaries.

India’s President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath for Modi as regional leaders, Bollywood stars and industrialists watched.

Alongside Modi, Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari also took oath as Cabinet Ministers.

Despite the win, the BJP fell short of the 272 seats required for independent governance. It only got 240 seats.

Modi’s party is shadowed by opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) led by the country’s oldest party, the Indian National Congress, which secured 232 seats.

The BJP also failed to secure a majority in key states, showing a significant drop in the political landscape that the party has been in control of for the last ten years.

The 15-member BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition has 293 seats in parliament, giving it control of the legislature.

Modi’s party has governed India as part of the NDA coalition over the past decade, but this is the first time under his leadership that the party has needed support from its regional allies to form a government.

Observers and political analysts view the election results as the beginning of the end of Modi and the BJP.

Modi’s supporters credit him for transforming the country into an emerging global power since sweeping to power in 2014.

His critics accuse him of eroding human rights, cracking down on freedom of the press and stoking hatred toward religious minorities.

During the election campaign, Modi was accused of hate speech and peddling anti-Muslim tropes after describing Muslims as infiltrators.

The results have shown that India has rejected this rhetoric from Modi and his people, said Hasan Salim Patel, a communications consultant and former planning editor at Al Jazeera.

Swedish Scientists Make World’s First ‘Living’ Computer Using Human Brain Tissue

The fear of robots replacing humans is high, especially with the advent of AI. But maybe it should be the machines that worry about us. Swedish scientists have created the world’s first living computer made from human brain tissue. It consists of 16 organoids, which are clumps of brain cells grown in a lab and exchange information with each other. This living machine uses less energy than conventional computers, thanks to the living neurons that use significantly less power. Challenges may arise, but the potential applications of this breakthrough are vast and promising.
