Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh: A 26-year-old woman who was shot in an office by a man last week has died during treatment at a hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur city. According to police officials, the woman was shot by Priyansh Vishwakarma at his office on June 16 when the victim had gone to meet him. The accused was subsequently arrested and charged with attempt to murder under the Indian Penal Code along with provisions of the Arms Act. Furthermore, a country-made pistol used in the crime has been seized and police officials are in the process of adding more charges against the accused.

Additionally, the incident has caused a political uproar, with Congress claiming that the accused is a BJP functionary, a claim which the saffron party has refuted. MP Congress general secretary Saurabh Sharma went on to claim that Vishwakarma has referred to himself as a BJP leader on Facebook, stating that he was an office-bearer of the BJP’s Gwarighat mandal and had uploaded pictures with top leaders on his Facebook profile. However, BJP’s city unit president Prabhat Sahu has dismissed Congress’ claims, stating that the accused was neither a member nor an office-bearer of the BJP.

The victim was undergoing treatment for the bullet injury at a hospital where she died on Monday, as per Sanjeevni Nagar police station in-charge Kranti Barve. Initially, the police had tried to mislead people by stating that it was an accidental firing, but the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section of attempt to murder was added four days after the incident when Congress raised the issue. A purported video also surfaced on social media where the victim is heard naming the accused when reporters ask her about the incident.

The incident has sparked nationwide outrage, with people calling for justice and stricter laws against guns. It highlights the need for strict background checks and screening procedures for individuals purchasing firearms. The tragic loss of life due to such incidents must be prevented, and perpetrators must be brought to justice. The case is still ongoing, and it remains to be seen how it will progress in the coming days.
