Israeli Strikes on Gaza Strip: Dozens Injured as Violence Escalates
Violence has escalated in the Gaza Strip as Israeli forces carried out airstrikes, causing dozens of injuries. The Israeli military stated that the strikes targeted Hamas military posts, while a tank fired upon a post from which shots had been fired at troops confronting protesters. The strikes resulted in two people being wounded, according to the Hamas-affiliated radio station, Aqsa.
In the al-Maghazi refugee camp, drones dropped stun grenades and tear gas canisters on the densely populated area, causing panic among the residents. Tanks positioned on the border also fired artillery shells at the Palestinian enclave. The attacks are believed to be a response to the incendiary balloons sent by the protesters across the border.
As a result of the attacks, protesters were forced to evacuate the area. The Ministry of Health reported that dozens of people have been injured. This violence comes after Israel shut down the Beit Hanouna crossing with Gaza, preventing thousands of workers from reaching their jobs in Israel and the West Bank. The closure was extended due to border demonstrations where Israeli troops used live fire against stone-throwing protesters.
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine has seen a rise in violence over the past year and a half. Peace talks between the two sides broke down over a decade ago, leading to frequent military raids by Israel in the occupied West Bank.
In July, Israeli forces launched a major attack on the occupied West Bank, resulting in the deaths of at least 12 Palestinians and the injury of over 100 more. In response to rockets fired from Gaza, Israeli fighter jets struck the besieged enclave. The attack drew condemnation from several countries, including Iran, Egypt, Jordan, and the Arab League.
These latest developments come shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s declaration at the United Nations General Assembly about a potential breakthrough leading to a peace agreement with Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also stated that progress was being made in negotiations but did not provide specific details. The United Arab Emirates and Bahrain have already normalized their ties with Israel as part of the Abraham Accords.
On the other hand, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas emphasized that Middle East peace cannot be achieved until the Palestinians are granted their full and legitimate national rights. Abbas called for an international conference to create a Palestinian state, stating that it might be the last opportunity to salvage the two-state solution and prevent further deterioration in the region’s security and stability.
As the violence escalates and tensions rise, the situation in the Gaza Strip continues to be a major concern. The search for a lasting and peaceful resolution remains elusive, leaving the Palestinian people caught in the middle of this long-standing conflict.
