Australia Supports Israel’s Right to Defend Itself Amid Hamas Attacks
In response to recent attacks carried out by the Palestinian militant group Hamas against Israel, Australia has expressed its condemnation while standing by Israel’s right to self-defense. The council emphasized that attempts to draw equivalences between the activities of a terrorist organization and the defensive measures taken by a democratic state are misguided and play into the hands of terrorists.
The Executive Council of Australian Jewry urged the Australian government to unequivocally condemn the attacks against Israel. They expressed that any calls for de-escalation and attempts to equate the actions of Hamas with those of Israel are misguided. The Zionist Federation of Australia also condemned what they called an appalling, unprovoked attack by Hamas, accusing them of targeting civilians in their homes.
