Internet services have partially resumed in the Indian district of Kolhapur in Maharashtra, following a suspension by the local administration. The move was in response to tensions arising from an alleged objectionable social media status concerning two historical figures, Aurangzeb and Tipu Sultan. An FIR has been filed against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Sandeep Deshpande and eight others for burning an effigy of Aurangzeb in Kolhapur. Following clashes between members of Hindu organisations and police, 36 people were arrested. The situation has returned to normal, though security remains tight as a precaution against further disturbances.
