Hawaii Wildfire Tragedy: Families Mourn as Death Toll Rises, Faith Offers Hope

The local community has already witnessed the devastating loss of life with five members of the Church of Latter-day Saints perishing in the fires, including four from one family. The Maui chapter of the church has opened two meeting houses as shelters amidst the recovery efforts. Rabbi Mendy Krasnjansky of the Chabad of Maui, which narrowly escaped the flames, affirms the people’s strength to soldier on despite the mystery surrounding the reasons behind such tragedies.

One such individual is Zac Wasserman, desperately seeking news about his wheelchair-bound uncle, David Hawley. Wasserman’s repeated attempts to contact his uncle went unanswered until finally, there was a response: his uncle was alive.
