Haryana Police Denies Sexual Harassment Claims at Nalhar Temple, Calls it False Narrative
The Haryana Police has refuted allegations of sexual harassment made by women stranded at the Nalhar Temple in Haryana’s Nuh district during the recent clashes in the area. The police labeled these claims as a false narrative. Mamata Singh, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) in the Rohtak Range, asserted that she was present at the temple during the clashes and that no such incidents occurred.
Communal clashes erupted in Nuh and other parts of Haryana on Monday after a Muslim mob allegedly pelted stones at a procession organized by the Bajrang Dal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). The violence resulted in six deaths and left over 200 people injured, spreading to adjoining regions like Gurugram and certain parts of Delhi.
Speaking to the news agency ANI, Mamata Singh stated, A narrative has been circulating on social media since yesterday alleging that on that particular day, when devotees were stranded at Nalhar Mandir, several women devotees were subjected to gruesome crimes like rape. She emphatically declared, I would like to inform you that this is false, a complete rumor.
Additionally, Singh warned that strict action would be taken against those who continue to spread such rumors. She also revealed that a total of 216 individuals had been apprehended in relation to violence-related incidents in Haryana, with 83 of them being preventive arrests.
Meanwhile, the state government of Haryana decided to extend the suspension of mobile internet, dongle, and SMS services in the violence-hit district of Nuh until Tuesday. However, voice calls would still be permitted. According to Mint, the ban will remain in effect until 11:59 pm on Tuesday.
The widespread violence that ravaged Haryana’s Nuh district on Monday subsequently spread to nearby Gurugram, resulting in the deaths of at least six people. The disturbances reportedly took place in a Muslim-majority area following reports that Monu Manesar, a member of the Bajrang Dal, would join the VHP march. It is worth noting that Manesar is wanted in connection with the February 2023 double murder case in Bhiwani, where he allegedly participated in the lynching of two Muslim cattle traders.
