The claims made in the video were shared on Twitter by users known to frequently spread misinformation, including a journalist from Sudarshan News, a right-wing propaganda outlet. The tweet claimed that the owner of the biryani joint had tried to bribe the men who confronted him with Rs 5000. It is important to note that these claims have not been substantiated.
To fact-check these claims, we reached out to the owner of the biryani joint, Subhan Ali. According to Ali, the viral video was shot on a day when the regular cleaner had not shown up for work. As a result, the gutter outside the restaurant began overflowing, prompting the owner to arrange a motor to pump out the water. Ali also provided a video showing the actual source of their water for cooking and cleaning utensils. The video clearly shows tap water being collected in a large pot, which is then used for cleaning utensils. For cooking and drinking purposes, the restaurant uses sealed jars of water obtained from a separate source.
We also spoke to the cleaner, who confirmed that he had not reported for duty on the specific days when the video was recorded. The police have also been involved in the matter and summoned both the restaurant owner and the men who accused the establishment of using contaminated water. The police clarified that there was no evidence of the restaurant using gutter water for cooking or cleaning. They advised the owner to refrain from pumping out sewer water onto the roads and instructed the cleaner to regularly clean the gutter.

The restaurant owner, as well as the local authorities, have provided evidence to debunk these claims. It is important to approach such allegations with caution and verify facts before spreading misinformation.
