Hamilton County Cities Recognized for Excellence at Tennessee Municipal League Conference

Three cities in Hamilton County, Tennessee, were honored with awards at the recent Tennessee Municipal League (TML) conference held in Nashville. The TML conference, which took place on July 25th at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel, celebrates the achievements, improvements, and programming of cities throughout the state.

Out of the 15 awards presented to municipalities statewide, Hamilton County proudly received four accolades. The cities of Collegedale, Lakesite, and Red Bank were recognized for their outstanding contributions and dedication to their communities.

The City of Lakesite was honored with the Excellence for Small City Progress award, recognizing their remarkable accomplishments over the past year. With a population that has grown from 500 to over 1,850 since its establishment more than 50 years ago, Lakesite has experienced significant progress. The city recently unveiled its first strategic plan, aimed at optimizing and maintaining the community’s well-being.

Collegedale Public Works Department was also acknowledged for their exceptional efforts in the field of public works. They received the Excellence in Public Works award for their prompt response and efficient handling of the Norfolk-Southern train derailment that occurred in December 2022. Their dedication and professionalism in managing such a challenging situation were recognized and applauded.

In addition to the recognition of Collegedale Public Works Department, Collegedale’s Commissioner Katie Lamb was presented with the prestigious Bob Kirk Leadership award. This honor celebrates her outstanding service and dedication as a public servant to the community of Collegedale.

Johnny Ledford of the City of Red Bank received the Murphy Snoderly award at the TML conference. This esteemed award highlights his exceptional work in the field of public works, acknowledging his commitment and contributions to the community.

All three cities—Collegedale, Lakesite, and Red Bank—are members of the Hamilton County Small Cities Coalition, which promotes collaboration on legislative matters. Their joint efforts and dedication have been instrumental in achieving these well-deserved honors.

The Tennessee Municipal League conference serves as a platform for municipalities across the state to share best practices, exchange ideas, and celebrate their successes. It is an opportunity for cities to come together and learn from one another, fostering a spirit of collaboration and growth.

Hamilton County’s success at the TML conference highlights the dedication and commitment of its cities to creating thriving communities. The awards bestowed upon Collegedale, Lakesite, and Red Bank underscore their exceptional achievements, and their recognition serves as an inspiration to other municipalities throughout the state.

As Hamilton County continues to grow and evolve, the commitment of its cities to excellence, innovation, and community service will undoubtedly shape a bright future for the county and its residents. Through collaboration and a shared vision, these cities are setting an example for others to follow, ensuring that Hamilton County remains a place of progress and prosperity for years to come.
