WASHINGTON DC, Sunday, January 14, 2024 – In a powerful display of solidarity, tens of thousands of activists gathered yesterday in Washington, D.C. as part of the Global Day of Action, demanding an immediate ceasefire in the US-backed Israeli war on Gaza.
Protesters, estimated to exceed 400,000, marched through the city while waving Palestinian flags and donning Palestinian keffiyehs. The demonstration marked the 100th day of Israeli aggression on Gaza.
Chants of Ceasefire now filled the air as demonstrators held up banners and posters with messages such as Free Palestine, Stop the War on Gaza, and End Funding for Genocide.
The White House served as a focal point of the protest, where speakers called on U.S. President Joe Biden to halt military and financial support for Israel. Applause erupted as one speaker addressed the crowd, saying, President Biden can easily stop this madness by exerting pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
During the event, several Palestinian Americans shared emotional stories of friends and relatives who lost their lives or sustained injuries in the ongoing Israeli genocide campaign in Gaza.
Additionally, cities and capitals worldwide witnessed significant protests against the continuous Israeli aggression on Gaza. Demonstrations were held in Paris, London, Amsterdam, Oslo, Uppsala, Milan, Tunis, Seoul, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, and Jakarta.
These global protests aimed to express solidarity with the Palestinian people while demanding an immediate ceasefire, an end to aggression on Gaza, and the delivery of crucial humanitarian aid to the region.
According to reports, the Israeli aggression on Gaza, which started on October 7 of last year, has resulted in a staggering death toll of 23,843 people. Another 60,317 individuals, predominantly children and women, have been injured. The ongoing aggression has also caused extensive damage to infrastructure, leading to an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
The Global Day of Action has been instrumental in bringing attention to the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza. As tensions continue to rise, protesters worldwide are banding together to advocate for the rights and safety of the Palestinian people, demanding immediate action from world leaders.
Despite the widespread support garnered by these protests, the international community remains divided on the issue, with differing opinions on how to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As the Global Day of Action draws to a close, activists vow to keep pushing for peace and justice in Gaza, urging governments to take a more proactive role in ending the violence and supporting the affected population.
The Global Day of Action serves as a stark reminder that the consequences of inaction are dire, and the international community must unite to find a sustainable solution that brings an end to the suffering in Gaza.
