Former President Donald Trump’s bond has been set at $200,000 in relation to charges filed against him by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis regarding alleged attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. The bond order, filed on Monday with the Fulton County Superior Court, states that Trump has until Friday to turn himself in for processing at the Fulton County Jail along with his 18 co-defendants.
The bond order includes specific amounts for each of the 13 counts Trump is facing, with the first charge of violating Georgia’s racketeering law carrying an $80,000 bond and the remaining 12 charges each carrying a $10,000 bond. Trump has the option to post the bond as cash, through commercial surety, or through the Fulton County Jail’s 10% program.
Under the terms outlined in the order, Trump is prohibited from intimidating any person known to him to be a codefendant or witness in the case, as well as obstructing the administration of justice. He is also prohibited from making direct or indirect threats against co-defendants, witnesses, or victims, including on social media. Additionally, Trump is not allowed to communicate in any way about the case with the other 18 defendants except through his attorney.
The order has been agreed upon by both Willis and Trump’s three lawyers, Drew Findling, Marissa Goldberg, and Jennifer Little, who were seen at the Fulton County Courthouse on Monday. Trump and his co-defendants have yet to enter pleas in the case, but the former president has denied any wrongdoing and criticized Willis for being politically motivated.
A grand jury in Fulton County recently returned a 41-count indictment that named Trump and 18 others. All individuals are being charged with violating Georgia’s racketeering law in connection with alleged efforts to reverse Trump’s electoral loss in the state. The arraignments for the defendants are expected to take place the week of September 5th.
The news of Trump’s bond being set has garnered significant attention, as it marks a significant development in the legal proceedings surrounding the allegations of election interference. The charges brought against Trump and the other defendants highlight the continued scrutiny over the integrity of the 2020 presidential election and the impact of misinformation and attempts to overturn the results. As the case progresses, it remains to be seen how the legal process will unfold and what implications it may have on future political and legal matters.
