The first snowfall of the year could hit Snohomish County this week, bringing potentially significant snowfall and plunging temperatures. According to Jeff Michalski, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Seattle, a pretty significant storm is expected to produce significant snow in the Cascades, with a 50% chance of about an inch of snow accumulation in the lowlands starting early Thursday morning.

While the majority of the snowfall is expected to be a mix of rain and snow, gusts of wind up to 50 mph were expected to move through Snohomish County on Monday night. As the week progresses, temperatures could dip into the teens, with low temperatures on Friday morning expected to reach around 23 degrees in Everett and 18 degrees in Arlington. In the eastern part of the county, temperatures were expected to hover in the low 20s in Gold Bar and Sultan.

The cold spell is expected to last until the end of the week, but meteorologists have expressed uncertainty within the forecast. Michalski explained, It’s quite remarkable how big this spread is. There’s a lot of cold air up in Canada that will be coming down, and it’s just a matter of how much it will filter in.

Authorities are taking precautions to ensure the safety of residents during the inclement weather. Shuttle services will be provided to transport individuals to a designated shelter in Sultan, with the shuttle departing at 7:45 p.m. from the Sultan library on Main Street.

As residents prepare for the potential snowfall and freezing temperatures, it is important to stay informed about the changing weather conditions and adhere to any safety guidelines and advisories issued by local authorities.

Keep updated with the latest weather forecasts and precautionary measures to stay safe and comfortable during this winter season in Snohomish County.
