Family of Man Fatally Shot by Police Calls for Officer’s Termination

The family of Sean Monterrosa, a San Francisco man who was tragically killed by the police during a night of protests and looting, is demanding that the Vallejo Police Department terminate the officer involved in the shooting. Attorney Jarrett Tonn, who represents Officer Jarrett Tonn, claims that Monterrosa posed an imminent threat at the time of the incident. However, Monterrosa’s family is not giving up and vows to fight for justice.

According to Michelle Monterrosa, Sean’s sister, the city of Vallejo has allowed the inhumane killing of unarmed Black and Brown men. On June 2, 2020, during the George Floyd protests, Officer Tonn fired five rounds from the back seat of a police vehicle, using a service rifle. Tragically, one of the shots struck Monterrosa in the back of his head, causing his death. The Vallejo Police Department initially fired Officer Tonn after determining that he had violated department policies regarding the use of force.

However, in a sudden reversal, the Vallejo Police Department recently reinstated Officer Tonn based on the findings of a neutral hearing officer. The hearing officer concluded that the third-party investigators had incorrectly based their findings on hindsight analysis, which is not permitted according to California Law. This decision has been met with strong resistance from Monterrosa’s sisters, who refuse to back down.

The Monterrosa family, supported by civil rights attorney Lee Merritt, is pursuing a civil lawsuit against Officer Tonn. In response to the reinstatement, Merritt has pledged to closely monitor Officer Tonn’s activities. Merritt plans to allocate $10,000 to pay private security agencies and licensed weapon carriers to track Officer Tonn’s assignments. Merritt intends to ensure that Officer Tonn faces significant scrutiny and will not find peace in the city of Vallejo.

A rally is being organized by the Monterrosa family, which will coincide with the next Vallejo City Council meeting on September 12th. The family hopes to raise awareness and seek justice for Sean Monterrosa’s death.

It is clear that this case has sparked significant controversy and highlighted the ongoing issue of police violence. The differing perspectives surrounding the incident indicate the need for a thorough and impartial investigation. With a civil lawsuit and public pressure, the fate of Officer Tonn remains uncertain. The rally organized by the Monterrosa family aims to shed light on these deeply troubling events and advocate for justice.
